VICKI LEEDS TANANBAUM

Vice President

Prior to joining the ONS Foundation for Clinical Research and Education as Vice President, Vicki, a volunteer fund raiser, has served non-profit organizations and foundations since 1970.  Over the years, her interests evolved to include medical research, education, the arts, and health and human services. Her philanthropic efforts and expertise in developing successful fund raising techniques have allowed many organizations to achieve and surpass their goals.  In 2006, she was recognized by the YWCA of Greenwich for her commitment to the needs of others and received the Spirit of Greenwich Award.

In 1970, Vicki founded the Maxwell Leeds Pediatric Tumor Foundation at Babies Hospital, Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, NY, and served as President and Chairman until 1982.  The Foundation, currently known as the Pediatric Cancer Foundation, made it possible for basic and clinical cancer research to be conducted and for deserving physicians to receive fellowship grants.  Recipients of these grants included renowned pediatric surgeon, Dr. Charles Stolar, and oncologist/hematologist, Dr. Michael Weiner.  This endeavor launched her volunteer fund raising career.

From 1980-1989, Vicki devoted a major part of her fund raising efforts to the Brunswick School and Greenwich Academy both located in Greenwich, Connecticut. Her interest in Charity Auctions was first challenged at Greenwich Academy. She served as Trustee at Greenwich Academy from 1985-1989, and co-chaired the Capital Campaign.  In addition, she led the Enhancing Excellence Past Parents Campaign Appeal to spark a new generation of giving.

Vicki chaired the 1993 Bruce Museum Renaissance Ball.  At the time, this dinner dance, journal and auction surpassed all existing records.  From 1994-1997, she served on the Board of Directors as Chair of marketing and as a member of the exhibitions committee.  Her talents as a fund raiser were further enhanced when Vicki chaired the 2000 Gala for Greenwich Hospital, an event whose proceeds launched the Breast Center at Greenwich Hospital.

It was as a member of the Board of the United Way of Greenwich, 2005-2008, that Vicki realized yet another dream – to meet the human service needs of others.  As Chairman of the 2005-2006 United Way of Greenwich Campaign, she and the campaign committee raised the standards and broke all previous records.

Vicki has served as a fund raising advisor to countless local organizations including Greenwich Adult Day Care, the Merritt Parkway Conservancy, and the YWCA of Greenwich.  She received her BA from Finch College, NYC and is married with three children and 5 grandchildren.  Her interests include travel, classical music, theatre, and golf.  In fact, she and her husband travel frequently to Scotland and Ireland in pursuit of this shared pastime.  The ONS Foundation revives Vicki’s commitment to medical research and education.
