2011 Pediatric and Adolescent Sports Medicine Update
The ONS Foundation's third annual medical conference took place on October 15, 2011 at Greenwich Hospital, focusing on Pediatric and Adolescent Injuries. Physicians, nurses, physician assistants, and physical therapists from around the region gathered to hear the latest information and research on diagnosis and treatment for musculoskeletal conditions and injuries affecting children through adolescence. Orthopedic, sports medicine and neurosurgery specialists from the ONS Foundation spoke on topics that included Strength Training for the Young Athlete, Injuries of the Throwing Elbow, ACL Injuries and Concussion Management and Prevention, among others. The keynote address was presented by Bob Bigelow, the co-author of a book titled Just Let the Kids Play, who was also an NBA first round draft choice.
Over 90 medical professionals including physicians, nurses, physician assistants, physical and occupational therapists, athletic trainers and coaches watched presentations by ten physicians and a physical therapist on the most recent information regarding diagnosis and treatment of for musculoskeletal conditions and injuries affecting active adults, over 40 years of age.
2009 Update on Treatments of Common Musculoskeletal Problems
This one-day professional seminar focused on the treatment of common musculoskeletal problems for Athletic Trainers, Allied Health Professionals, Nurses, Physicians, Physical & Occupational Therapists and Physician Assistants. The Keynote Speaker was New York Times writer Michael Sokolove, author of “Warrior Girls: Protecting Our Daughters Against the Injury Epidemic in Women’s Sports.”
