ThinkFirst ONS Foundation Brings Injury Prevention Message to Greenwich Country Day School Summer Camp 2010

This summer, the ThinkFirst ONS Foundation injury prevention curriculum was incorporated into the Greenwich Country Day School Summer Camp 2010. The ThinkFirst ONS Foundation is the local chapter of the national ThinkFirst organization that works with teachers, educators and communities to reduce the risk of brain and spinal cord injury through education and community outreach.  Thanks to the cooperative efforts of Camp Director, Mr. Timothy McGinty, children ages 4 through 12 were presented with vital information on water safety, bicycle safety and vehicular safety as part of their summer camp experience. Through role playing and question and answer sessions, McGinty and his counsellors taught children how to exercise safety measures in a variety of real-life scenarios. Following the ThinkFirst guidelines, the programs also highlighted the vital role of the brain and spinal cord, and why it is important to protect them from injury. The students took part enthusiastically, sharing their own stories and thoughts on swimming, biking and car safety. At the conclusion of the camp, these topics were reviewed and the children demonstrated how much they had learned from the five-week program, and discussed how they would help their parents and others to exercise safety measures in their daily lives.

The ThinkFirst ONS Foundation gratefully acknowledges the cooperation and support of Mr. McGinty, his staff at Greenwich Country Day School Summer Camp and all the children who participated in the ThinkFirst ONS Foundation program.
