2010 ONS Foundation Golf Outing returns to Winged Foot Golf Club on June 21st

The ONS Foundation for Clinical Research and Education will hold its second annual benefit golf outing next Monday, June 21 at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, NY. The outing committee has planned an exciting day of golf on the club’s renowned West Course, along with other activities. The golf outing is the primary fundraising vehicle for the Foundation, which actively promotes sports injury prevention and conducts clinical research aimed at improving orthopaedic and neurosurgical procedures and standards. Themed Linking Knowledge to Motion, the goal of this year’s event is to raise funds to build a biomechanics research laboratory.

“Building a fully-equipped biomechanics research laboratory is an ambitious goal but one we are confident we will meet,” said ONS Foundation President and Founder Paul Sethi, MD. “The lab is critical to advancing the goals of the Foundation. Currently our medical researchers work in outside labs. Having the ability to test procedures in our own facility will significantly expand our capability to conduct safe, ethically-sound clinical studies. We’re looking forward to a great event to help us meet this goal.”

The day’s activities will begin with registration and warm-up at 11 a.m. At 11:30 a.m., a lunch buffet will be served on the clubhouse terrace. The tournament will begin on the West Course with a shotgun start at 12:45 p.m. Afterward, golfers and other guests will attend a festive cocktail reception featuring a silent auction of tempting fashion and travel-related packages, followed by a sumptuous dinner buffet and an awards presentation.

The golf outing at Winged Foot is co-chaired by Michael Clain, MD and Vicki Leeds Tananbaum. The auction is chaired by Susan Curtin, and Margaret Archer, Nancy Colabella and Susan Flink serve on the tournament committee.

Sponsors for this year’s event include Bershtein, Volpe & McKeon P.C., Ferring Pharmaceuticals-makers of Euflexxa, Fieldpoint Private Bank & Trust, Greenwich Hospital, Medtronic's Spinal & Biologics Business, New England Insurance Agency LLC, Orthofix Bone Growth Stimulators, SAVITT PARTNERS, Stamford Hospital and Thomas Cleaners & Chinese Hand Laundry. Moffly Media and The Wag are media sponsors. Donors to the silent auction include The Old Course Experience, St. Andrews, Betteridge, Richards, Curtain Bluff, Omphoy Ocean Resort, Tiffany & Co., Three Stallion Inn, Golf Digest, Cashmere Inc., Vineyard Vine, Brazilian Court Hotel, Café Boulud, and Judith Ripka. Favors have been donated by ZAGWEAR and tournament prizes are by Tiffany & Co. 2009 Golf Outing at Winged Foot Raises Funds to Support Foundation Initiatives

Clear skies prevailed on June 8th at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, NY for the ONS Foundation for Clinical Research and Education golf outing. Foundation Vice President Vicki Leeds Tananbaum and orthopaedic surgeon Michael Clain, MD co-chaired the first fundraising event for the non-profit foundation. Twenty-three foursomes participated in the outing and silent auction to raise funds for the ONS Foundation injury prevention and clinical research initiatives.

The day began with a buffet lunch served on the clubhouse terrace.  Following a round of golf on the beautiful West Championship Course, dinner was held for 150 people who also bid on a tempting array of auction items orchestrated by auction chair Sue Curtin. Highlights included the Old Course Experience at St. Andrew’s, Scotland, a vacation package in Antigua and a sailing adventure aboard the Ticonderoga, among others.  “We had a fabulous day, great golf, an exciting auction all the result pf a truly cooperative effort,” said Ms. Tananbaum. “Mets player Carlos Delgado attended the party and spoke with guests about the importance of the Foundation’s mission.”

Event sponsors included Zagwear, Lexus of Greenwich/Lexus of Mt. Kisco who provided the Hole in One car, and Tiffany & Co., who donated the golf prizes.

Funds raised by the golf outing will support the Foundation’s education initiative, which includes community outreach programs on injury prevention as well as training opportunities for surgeons from around the world to learn advanced procedures being developed by Greenwich orthopaedic and neurological surgeons.
