Golf Outing at Winged Foot Raises Funds to Support Foundation Initiatives

Clear skies prevailed on June 8th at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, NY for the ONS Foundation for Clinical Research and Education golf outing. Foundation Vice President Vicki Leeds Tananbaum and orthopaedic surgeon Michael Clain, MD co-chaired the first fundraising event for the non-profit foundation. Twenty-three foursomes participated in the outing and silent auction to raise funds for the ONS Foundation injury prevention and clinical research initiatives.

The day began with a buffet lunch served on the clubhouse terrace.  Following a round of golf on the beautiful West Championship Course, dinner was held for 150 people who also bid on a tempting array of auction items orchestrated by auction chair Sue Curtin. Highlights included the Old Course Experience at St. Andrew’s, Scotland, a vacation package in Antigua and a sailing adventure aboard the Ticonderoga, among others.  “We had a fabulous day, great golf, an exciting auction all the result pf a truly cooperative effort,” said Ms. Tananbaum. “Mets player Carlos Delgado attended the party and spoke with guests about the importance of the Foundation’s mission.”

Robert Goldfein, Ryan Fowley, Carl Thiery and Robert KleinEvent sponsors included Zagwear, Lexus of Greenwich/Lexus of Mt. Kisco who provided the Hole in One car, and Tiffany & Co., who donated the golf prizes.

Funds raised by the golf outing will support the Foundation’s education initiative, which includes community outreach programs on injury prevention as well as training opportunities for surgeons from around the world to learn advanced procedures being developed by Greenwich orthopaedic and neurological surgeons.

Clinical research projects currently underway at the Foundation include studies on the biomechanical performance of triceps tendon repair, the integrity of a rotator cuff after-suture bridge repair, safe parameters for youth curveball mechanics; a comparison study of open and minimally invasive spinal fusion procedures; and a study to compare outcome and cost analysis for treatment of an upper cervical spine fractures common in the elderly.
