Golf Outing raises funds for Biomechanics Research Lab in Greenwich

A bright and sunny day greeted golfers on June 21st at the second annual golf outing at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck to benefit the ONS Foundation for Clinical Research and Education. The golf outing is the primary fundraising vehicle for the Foundation, which actively promotes sports injury prevention and conducts clinical research aimed at improving orthopedic and neurosurgical techniques and standards. ONS Foundation Vice President Vicki Leeds Tananbaum and orthopedic surgeon Michael Clain, MD co-chaired the event that was themed, Linking Knowledge to Motion. Funds raised from the outing will go towards the development of the Foundation’s own biomechanics research laboratory.

A beautiful buffet lunch was served on the clubhouse porch before the start of the tournament. Then twenty-three foursomes played a round on Winged Foot’s renowned West Championship Course.

Afterward, golfers were joined by other guests for cocktails, an elaborate buffet dinner and a silent auction that was orchestrated by Auction Chair Susan Curtin. Highlights of the auction included the Old Course Experience at St. Andrew’s in Scotland, and a vacation in Antigua. “In addition to a fundraiser, the outing and party were an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the Foundation over the last 12 months,” said Ms. Tananbaum. “We are proud of the progress we’ve made as an organization that’s improving the field of sports medicine and making a difference in the lives of people. We had a terrific day; great golf and a great party. Everyone had fun!”

The outing was generously supported by its sponsors; Bershtein, Volpe & McKeon P.C., Ferring Pharmaceuticals, Fieldpoint Private Bank & Trust, Greentree Toyota of Danbury who provided the Hole in One car, Greenwich Hospital, Medtronic's Spinal & Biologics Business, New England Insurance Agency LLC, Orthofix Bone Growth Stimulators, SAVITT PARTNERS, Stamford Hospital and Thomas Cleaners & Chinese Hand Laundry. Moffly Media and The Wag were media sponsors. Silent auction donors included The Old Course Experience, St. Andrews, Betteridge, Richards, Curtain Bluff, Omphoy Ocean Resort, Tiffany & Co., Three Stallion Inn, Golf Digest, Cashmere Inc., Vineyard Vine, Brazilian Court Hotel, Café Boulud, and Judith Ripka. Favors were donated by ZAGWEAR and tournament prizes were given by Tiffany & Co.

Clinical research projects currently underway at the Foundation include studies of the biomechanical performance of triceps tendon repair, safe parameters for youth curveball mechanics, and a comparison study of open and minimally invasive spinal fusion procedures.
