Spondylolysis is a unilateral or bilateral defect of the isthmic portion of the pars interarticularis of the lumbar spine. It is a stress or fatigue fracture seen most often in children and adolescents. While the exact cause of spondylolysis is unclear, it has been described as hereditary or acquired as the result of repetitive stress and fatigue of the lower segment, leading to a stress reaction and subsequent failure. A wide range of conservative treatments have been used.
The purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy and clinical outcomes of lumbar spondylolysis in children treated with rest; brace and rest; and brace and external bone stimulator.
