The triceps study is a cadaveric study which evaluates the biomechanical properties of two different techniques for triceps tendon repair and also will help to redefine the triceps footprint. The traditional “Morrey” repair with Krakow sutures is compared to a suture bridge, or “anatomic” repair. Differences in gap formation, strength of repair and percent of footprint restoration will be compared. Our hypothesis is that the anatomic repair will restore the footprint and have superior biomechanical performance. We are evaluating ten matched pairs, of which six specimens have been evaluated. The preliminary results favor the anatomic repair, as we hypothesized. This study will be completed and submitted for publication and will be submitted at Shoulder and Elbow and AOSSM meetings. Since the study inception, clinical repairs have been performed, by the ONS Foundation and by Neal ElAttrache at the Kerlan Jobe Clinic. Clinical repairs were used in the setting of revision surgery, both with excellent outcomes.
